CUPID (CUORE Upgrade with Particle Identification) is the upgrade of the CUORE experiment. CUPID is a leading next generation of rare event experiments. Designed to search and investigate the 100Mo double beta decay aims at reducing CUORE radioactive background by 2 order of magnitudes. It will enable the exploration of the inverted hierarchy of the neutrino masses and to access rare processes with probabilities as low as 10-27 y-1.
Cosmological relic neutrinos are a fundamental ingredient of modern cosmology, but until today they escaped direct detection because of their extremely low interaction probability. Detecting the cosmological neutrino background is the goal of the PTOLEMY project. In PTOLEMY neutrinos are captured by tritium and electrons are emitted with a kinetic energy of a fraction of electronvolt (eV) above the tritium beta decay endpoint at 18keV. Electrons are then decelerated to few eVs, by removing a precisely known amount of kinetic energy with an time-varying electro-magnetic filter.
CUORE is an international experiment to search for the neutrinoless double beta decay of 130Te using an array of TeO2 low temperature detectors. The experiment is in construction at the LNGS underground laboratories.
